...(exhale)...
Our day at Pebble Beach yesterday was nothing short of glorious. The weather could not have been more perfect. AT&T is the sponsor of the tournament and they offered to spectators free wireless devices where we could create our own leaderboard, get tournament news alerts, find players on the course, check scores, etc. Being two who are on the computer a lot, you know we used those! :)
We didn't pick one group to follow around the course. Unlike my brother, who's played the course about a dozen times, Jeffrey had never been on Pebble Beach's course. Being the course nut he is (and don't forget he works at a golf course two days a week), he was curious to see the lay of the land--how difficult the holes are and how it was designed and is maintained. So we made sure to see each of the holes. We did a lot of walking over many hours and, boy, do my legs feel it today. :) I was most curious to see as many golfers and celebs as we could. (These days, the tournament is conducted simultaneously on three courses: Pebble Beach, Poppy Hills and Spyglass.)
Some of the big golf names we saw were Phil Mickelson, Greg Norman (now engaged to Chris Evert), John Daly, Justin Leonard, Peter Jacobson (a Portland resident), Craig Stadler, Steve Elkington, Duffy Waldorf, etc. Celebs we saw included Kevin Costner, Kevin James, Ray Romano, Andy Garcia (the nattiest dresser by far), George Lopez, Huey Lewis, Glenn Frey, Josh Duhamel (the star of "Las Vegas" and Fergie's boyfriend) and Thomas Gibson (Greg of "Dharma and Greg"). We also saw Don Cheadle and Kenny G play a couple of holes with their pro partners. Kenny's a scratch golfer, but Cheadle was playing much better. I really wanted to see Cheadle not just because I love him as an actor, but also because of the work he does on behalf of Darfur. Although it was a little surreal to see Kenny G. playing right in front of us when I thought how small the world is and how last year, he and Jeffrey were both at a funeral in Portland--although they don't know each other. J was a pallbearer and Kenny gave a eulogy when their mutual friend (Kenny's long-time drummer) died.
I wish I could bombard you with stunning photos and video, but the tournament bans cameras and cell phones (my tiny fanny pack was searched at least three times). And we were so spent by the time we got back to our car in the shuttle lot two towns away that we scrapped our plans for a beach visit...grabbed a quick bite...and headed home. It was a long day (we were up at 4:30), but a grand one! We were celebrating our 13th anniversary (what we consider our anniversary anyway). :)
J's gone off to Burlingame to do his brunch gig. We're having dinner at my brother's house tonight for my nephew's 17th birthday today. We picked up a couple of things for Zak in the golf shop yesterday. We learned last night that his school's going to allow him to play on both the baseball (he's been an all-star pitcher since little league) and golf teams this Spring, so that's exciting news. (He's playing in a golf tournament with my brother this morning.) But first there's basketball season to complete, with the final two (away) games this week. :)
The batteries on my camera have expired and I don't have any on hand, so I can't even download last week's photos and videos yet. There were moments when I forgot to take my daily photo, which is why I didn't want to join the official Flickr group. I'll substitute some additional photos from other days for those missing ones. Last week was crazy: super-busy at work...went to two of Zak's basketball games...shot stills and video for two school events on Thursday (one in the morning and another after school)...and all of the excitement around Super Tuesday, of course! It just seemed like it was go-go-go for days. I have lots of catching up to do...reading blogs...at Flickr...keeping up my poetry practice, etc. But I have today and tomorrow at home, so today I plan to decompress a bit and just take it easy. Hope you're all enjoying a wonderful weekend. xoxo

I love the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the courses, the scenery...It's a good day! Lots of celebs and golfers you only get to see on TV and I don't even care much for golf. Envy you the day!!
What a positively incredible weekend. When I was drinking in your Pebble Beach experience I was smiling widely... I was at Augusta National for the Green Jacket tournament the year Phil Mickelson was a rookie :)
I too spent the day celeb watching and probably walked around slack jawed when I saw the big guns play.
Oh, what I wouldn't have given to see Andy Garcia... eye candy extraordinaire.
Sigh... Pebble Beach.
You lucky, lucky girl.
And your beautiful J must have been in golf heaven... what a perfect day.
Hope the warmth of it all stays with you for days...
